Mont-Tremblant, September 26, 2018 – The second edition of the Bonneville 808 Challenge, presented by Fenplast and Lowe’s Canada in collaboration with Samson Groupe Conseil, raised over $500,000 for the Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ).
The cycling event took place last weekend in Mont-Tremblant. More than 350 cyclists accepted the challenge to ride their distance of choice: 125 km individual, 202 km individual or pair, or 404 km or 808 km individual, pair or foursome.
“As predicted, the 2018 Bonneville 808 Challenge was an emotionally charged event. Participants really had to dig deep to succeed in their chosen challenges. The cold, windy weather, with temperatures reaching as low as zero degrees Celsius, only added to the difficulty. Unique bonds were created amongst the cyclists as well as between them and their support teams. The Bonneville 808 Challenge is an opportunity to challenge oneself, to adopt a healthy lifestyle, to get back in shape and to cross the finish line filled with pride, strength and confidence in the future. We hope we have succeeded in inspiring our student-athletes who in turn inspire us and for whom we all rode this weekend,” stated Dany Bonneville, president and founder of the Bonneville 808 Challenge, who completed the individual 808 km event in 35 hours and 57 minutes.
FAEQ president Claude Chagnon was also pleased with the second edition of the challenge. “We can once again say that we accomplished our mission. Not only did the event raise a considerable amount of money in its second edition, but the participants' accomplishments were very touching and inspiring. The amount raised will allow us to reach our goal of awarding $1,500,000 in individual scholarships to nearly 525 student-athletes in 2019 and to continue to provide student-athletes with support as they balance sports with academic pursuits,” he added.
