Admissibility Athletic Excellence Funds Bursary Program

Eligibility criteria

1. The Foundation wants to support the development of the sports excellence of the best Quebec athletes who are at an international level or in process to be. The athlete should have already reached high level of performance and be engaged in a competition training program which is respecting the highest quality standard. He must show a progress and a commitment to achieve the highest summits of sports performance.

2. The post-career preparation should be a permanent concern for the athlete who should thus join a formation project and post-career. According to the age and his progress, the athlete can continue his studies, pursue its interrupted studies, follow improvers courses, pursue trainings in companies or have integrated the labour market if the studies are completed.

3. The athlete must be eligible to represent Canada at the Olympic, Paralympic Games, as well as the World Championship in their respective sport.

4. The athletes should be born in Quebec and/or have been a Quebec resident for the last two years or train in a national training center in Quebec.

Selection criteria

1. Priority will be given to the athletes of the 3 following categories:

  • Sport-Canada carded athletes.
  • Sport-Canada non-carded athletes, but being a part of a Canadian Team practising non-supported Olympic sports.
  • Identified Elite and Hopeful athletes by the sports federations and considered in net progression and promising.

2. Priority will be given to the athletes enrolled in the following sports:

  • Olympic and Paralympic international federations sports.
  • International sports federations recognized by the International Olympic Committee.

3. Within their respective sport, the athletes performances will be prioritized according to the following events:

  1. Olympic and Paralympic sport events
  2. World championship sport events
  3. World cup sport events.

Other considerations

Financial needs

The Foundation wants to help the athlete to meet their financial needs in order to allow them to achieve their athletic and academic goals. The athlete must demonstrate that the financial support requested corresponds to a real need by completing and commenting a "budget income and expenses", which is part of the request bursaries form.

Personality and attitude

The Foundation privileges a global approach of the athlete, he must portray a positive attitude and good conduct in their sport and in every day life. The environment of the international level athlete will put him in relation with different people (sponsors, governors and administrators of the Foundation, medias, young people, etc.). It requires endeavours and the desire to develop certain communication skills or other quality favouring a positive image.

The athlete will thus have advantage, with the presentation of his file, to add the following elements:

  • Volunteer implication in their sport, school or in the community in general;
  • Honors and distinctions non directly related to their sport;
  • Appreciation letters or thank you letters from coaches, schools or any other organization;
  • Person references and coordinates for eventual contacts by the Foundation.
